Thousands left stranded after televangelist Benny Hinn unable to enter Britain

This video shows US televangelist Benny Hinn doing his 'let the bodies hit the floor' routine. There are regular reports of miraculous healings from his missions around the world, including Britain. Benny Hinn was meant to be evangelising the UK as I write, with three days booked from last night until 3 October at Excel in London's Docklands. But his attempt to enter the country at Stansted Airport was unsuccessful. According to sources he took his private jet to Paris and then tried a second time, at Luton Airport. That attempt failed too, and tonight, Friday, he is on his way back to France.

According to exhibition centre Excel, where staff are currently in a meeting debating whether to put on another pastor, he will not now be appearing.

The problem is that since he came last year, and many years previously, the Home Office has changed the rules on visiting ministers of religion. He has fallen foul of tier five of the new points-based tier system for all visitors to Britain. It came into effect on 27 November 2008, but for him there was a turning back. No amount of prayers can get the UK Border Agency to change its mind when someone doesn't have the right papers. He or a member of his staff should have read these rules before sending his private jet over here at great expense, and encouraging thousands of UK Pentecostals to book expensive weekend breaks in London hotels, all to no avail.

The new rules form part of the biggest overhaul to British immigration in 40 years. A points system was introduced, with one intention of combating extremism and prevent preachers of hate coming in. Tier Five, however, which has caught Benny Hinn, was introduced to stop ministers coming in as visitors and then making a quick buck by speaking at events or 'working' while they are here.

Ministers of all faiths now need a letter of sponsorship if they are to do religious work in Britain, even when, as at Excel, the event is free.

Well, sort of free. Last night, one attendee told me, another pastor standing by took over and emotive pleas for donations of up to £1,000, along with the donors' names, addresses, phone numbers and all other details that would enable them to be contacted again. 'I felt it was very manipulative,' my source said.

And certainly, not everyone is grieving, according to A Daughter's Thoughts.

Slaughter of the Sheep is not impressed either.

His office have still not come back to me, so it was left to the Home Office themselves to confirm what was becoming clear to those left high and dry: he's returning back home on a wing and perhaps a prayer, unable to enter Britain.

God or no God, this is one miracle that isn't going to happen.

Benny Hinn follows nobody on Twitter.

There is a massive change underway in the mobile media market as it becomes unshackled from the operators’ portals that have dominated it for a decade, all without having made any significant inroads into the content use of mobile users. The new capped data packages, fuelled by further competition, will see a total revamp of the mobile media market. It will no longer be based on portals but on direct services by content and services providers via open source phones and mobile-friendly Internet-based services. The next step is the continued emergence of m-commerce and in particular m-payment services.

I have never seen anyone being hauled to a Benny Hinn meeting, I also object strongly to being told who I may or may not give my hard earned money to and that by government and unbelievers. "Give and it shall be given unto you again, good measure" is not a false promise to christians [those who believe at any rate] yes it will soon be illegal to believe the bible.

>>and it is no exaggeration to say how terribly sad it is to see a once great nation descend into a second rate country ruled by hypocritical, short-sighted and self serving leaders who are turning a once tolerant society into one peopled by fear intolerance and loss of purpose.

I disagree. Why should the British ape the Americans? The French are still French and the Germans are still Germans, the Japanese, the Chinese and Indians are still Asians. The Brits have a much longer history and experience than the Americans and ought to know what is best for them.

Is this really an American century? Can the Americans really succeed in dominating the world and imposing their culture and values on everybody? We will have to wait and see. All forecasts must be taken with a pinch of salt for anything can happen overnight. There are some books written on this subject now.

To Merseymike,

>>the aim of the legislation was to control extremist Islamist speakers.

The government must be seen to be fair and the Law applied equally to all religions. The Home Office must have good reasons for denying him entry into Britain.

This "hitting the floor" thing can affect people even if they don't believe in it. J.I. Packer told us of a friend of his who went to interview Katherine Kuhlman. If I remember correctly he was also a theologian and didn't believe in this of thing at all. After the interview he got up to leave. At the door she waved her hand at him and the next thing that happened was he found himself on the floor. Packer said, "I don't know what happened and he doesn't know what happened either, but it is not necessary for spiritual health."

I saw this on one of his TV broadcast in Australia. People were falling down everywhere in front of and on the stage but one girl did the boxer's foot-work when they tried to make her fall and they couldn't do it. The camera then quickly moved away from her. She must be one of those who had good control of her mind and emotion.

I think all Christians should keep away from this kind of meetings and preachers like that. The mind can be manipulated by using psychological techniques.

The best thing to do is to study the U-tubes above. I will not have anything to do with preachers like that. We have them here too. You can see bodies on the floor lying around like corpses. I don't believe such practices has anything to do with Christianity.

Cheers

Of course, with video cameras at every street corner, being used by people to spy on their neighbours, cameras on high streets, at public venues, ewtc,m etc, Benny Hinn would never have had a chance to do his thing.

I don't care much for Benny Hinn but to ban him for such specious reasons brings further shame on those who manipulate the PC which has gripped this country.

I have lived in New Hampshire for some years now (except for frequent visits home and one three year stint) and it is no exageration to say how terribly sad it is to see a once great nation descend into a second rate country ruled by hypocritical, short-sighted and self serving leaders who are turning a once tolerant society into one peopled by fear intolerance and loss of purpose.

There used to be a 'soap box' at Hyde Park corner where anyone was allowed to say anything. I imagine that soap box has long been burned.

Posted by: Bill Channon | 6 Oct 2009 23:00:30

Hinn, as far as I am aware, never seems to ply his "minsitry" in, say, cancer hospices, or homes where the inmates sufer from dementi. If he can heal people, why wouldn't we let him into hospices and care homes to practise his "ministry" in these, to see if those who are in their last days simply get up and walk out, to live terminal illness-free lives thereafter? Once their 'bodies have hit the floor', of course. And he would have to go in on his own, without his entourage. Just a neutral cameraman to film the miracles for us.

Likewise, could we let him visit hospitals where he could work his "ministry" to grow back limbs that have been lost in accidents or amputated for other reasons?

>>I fear that if Blair manages to wheedle his way into the Presidency, he will use all means available to create a more totalitarian empire than the late, unlamented soviet union.

No, I don't think so. What it means is the United States of America will be an even greater and the only superpower in the world and the Europeans will become subservient to the Americans. Europe will be history. What is the likelihood of it happening in this century? Something for the Europeans to think about.

There are lots of Christians, especially those who subscribe to American theology, who believe the EU is a resurrection of the old Roman Empire and will become so powerful and the Anti-Christ will come from there to rule the whole world and cause seven years of tribulation and terrible sufferings on earth. He will break his covenant with Israel after three and a half years. What they can't figure out is where is the USA in all this so-called Bible prophecies. All a load of rubbish as far as I am concerned. Who invented all this theology? British Christians should not allow anybody to fool them. Read the Bible.

I can't say I'm a great fan of Benny Hinn, but I do worry that our government now sees itself as competent to move into the realm of protect us from our own choices (the ones they don't approve of that is)...

Especially as so many Government ministers have just been demonstrating their own personal greed, and inflicted their financial incompetence on the whole nation!

I bet Benny Hinn never created a situation where every man, woman and child was given a debt of over 3000 pounds, without any choice in the matter, and then legally obliged to pay it back!

Our rulers should try taking the log out of their own eye before attempting to take splinters out of other peoples'!

CP36: I don't think that the UK government was thinking, at all, about religious content in terms of Christianity when the new regulations were drawn up. Although there is some concern about hate speech from extreme Christian sources, the aim of the legislation was to control extremist Islamist speakers.

I happen to think Hinn is a charlatan and a con-man, and I am glad that he has been barred from entering the UK

Touche, Lewis. Very well put. I think far too many in all Christian denominations, including my own, are a little too susceptible to "plying their religious trade for money."

>>This Government should be ashamed of bringing in a law that directly discriminates against Christians. If they do this to Christians then who is next?

Oh, you sound so pathetic. The British Government is not doing anything against the Christians. The Laws in Britain are very similar to the Laws of my country. Any kind of religious extremism must be curbed and only the governments have the power to do it. It doesn't matter if they are so-called Christians. There is nothing Christian in what you see in the U-tubes above. Study the pictures carefully. In pagan religions they do many things for which Science has no explanation. True Christians should not be surprised for the Scriptures say that Satan can appear as and "angel of light". Jesus told us not to be deceived. Read the Bible.

Yes indeed, Alan (03/10/09 - 13:33:17), the results of the recent polls in Ireland do now suggest that Mr. Blair could be a step nearer to the post of "President". If his previous actions are to be emulated, then it shouldn't be too difficult for him to "double cross" even the Rubicon, to achieve his desired new heights.

I receive regular "comments" from my family and friends in England as to all of the "goings on" over there, and none of them seem very happy about the recent 'developments' which you mentioned.

Would "Kharma" provide a possible explanation for our current woes ?.

My very best wishes.

>>Wow Britain! You have come a full circle from being a Christian nation till the 20th century now to become a anti-Christian nation.

I definitely disagree. I see it as a possible step towards Britain turning around and returning to Biblical Christianity. I fully support the British Government on what they did. He thought he could sneak in via another airport in his private jet but what he didn't know was the British Intelligence is the best in the world. The British people must not allow anybody to fool them.

Just take a good look at that U-tube above. Notice that he pushes the people down? Also notice some of them quiver on the floor. You call this Christianity? It is a psychological manipulation of the mind. I saw this elsewhere. He raises his hand and some of them fall down just like that. These are probably his co-workers. They all wear the same kind of coat. It must be staged as far as I am concerned. Some people who have undergone this experience say it is just like taking drugs and they want more. The British Government has prevented many thousands or maybe even millions of British Pounds from going into the American pocket. They have done a great job. I am very happy.

I'm not sure how the devious and hypocritical Blair managed to get into this discussion, but since he has, please allow me to say this:

If anyone should be foolish enough to nominate this detestable man as "President" of the EU, I trust there will be enough lawyers prepared to get him into an international court of law to face charges of war crimes.

But I hope this will not be necessary, as the very idea of Blair as EU President simply boggles the mind, given the amount of (mainly Arab) blood on his hands.

Posted by: D. Bunker | 3 Oct 2009 21:55:38

This Government should be ashamed of bringing in a law that directly discriminates against Christians. Benny Hinn was obviously invited here, so what was the problem?

If they do this to Christians then who is next? How long before Christians will face prison for preaching the gospel...at this rate not long at all...

Posted by: Kevin | 3 Oct 2009 21:38:21

God had mercy on the Christians in England by not allowing Hinn to [snip] them.

Posted by: Devin | 3 Oct 2009 19:33:33

The deeply disturbing thing about this is that people like scientologists are being permitted freely to enter this country to promote a cult which is fortunately banned in some western nations.

Goodness knows who "Benny Hinn" is, but he can hardly be as dangerous as many of those coming here to promote extreme or whacky sects. The guidelines on admission need to be revised to keep them out, even as visitors.

Posted by: David Cohen | 3 Oct 2009 18:42:48

I wonder if he would have been admitted entrance to Britian if he took no money and preached for free? I will agree with the government on this one - you don't want him. Now if we could do that in the U.S..........

Posted by: MSgtK | 3 Oct 2009 17:38:46

I fail to see why people who want to spend money on this entertainment are being prevented from doing so. I do a lot of work with vulnerable people on very low incomes who were persuaded to take out huge debts by major high street banks and their business partners. If the chief executives of these banks are allowed to visit the country to address conferences and, worse still, training seminars, why not Benny Hinn?

So he took a widow's last fiver to fund his extravagant lifestyle. How about the bank that packaged and targetted their loans to persuade a shopgirl of 16 with no qualifications or assets to spend 20,000 pounds of credit on clothes and electronics? Or the bank that worked with a training agency to devise a "train now, pay later" debt which persuaded a person with limited English to sign up (at a jobcenter, ye Gods) for a totally unsuitable training course, hiding the fact that even though this person cancelled the course before it started they would three years later receive a letter legitimately pursuing them for 10,000 pounds plus interest?

Yes, these people were simple-minded and easily led by the debtmongers. But why is it OK for them to ruin themselves with debt, but not with religion?

Posted by: delilah | 3 Oct 2009 17:32:11

Dear Andrew

I fear that if Blair manages to wheedle his way into the Presidency, he will use all means available to create a more totalitarian empire than the late, unlamented soviet union.

His party is fast turning Britain into a repressive state which snoops on its people and encourages neighbours to denounce one another to local officials about alleged thought crimes.

In many cases there are no courts, no rule of law, but the weight of the establishment comes down upon the heads of the offenders like a ton of lead bars.

How good it was to see Baroness Scotland hoist with her own petard - and how typical that nobody in power in our brave new world resigns, even when caught in flagrante delicto.

Posted by: Alan Marsh | 3 Oct 2009 13:33:17

Pope Benedict is the only Benny worth listening to when it comes to the faith.

Posted by: Tim | 3 Oct 2009 12:48:35

In matters medical we have the terribly handy quackwatch.com if you need to check out, for example, just how efficacious or not Tibetan moon juice is as a cure for cancer.

You would be saddened - and perhaps not amazed - to discover just how many people are prepared to peddle false hopes to the desperate at a high price.

Is there a religious or faith equivalent?

If not, there should be. It needs, though, a good name.

My mind is a happy blank. Suggestions please.

@emma:

'Benny Hinn lives for Jesus'

Sure - that's why he gives all his money to the poor rather than taking money from the poor and spending it on private jets. No, wait...

Believe me, this [snip] lives entirely for himself.

Posted by: stoat100 | 3 Oct 2009 11:42:51

I am really pleased to hear this. Benny Hinn's [snip] all the supposed "miracles" he claims are nothing but the result of psychological suggestion and crowd manipulation. Numerous people have studied Hinn [snip] He's a disgrace to Christianity and I hope they find some reason to permanently exclude him from this country. And don't think I have some sort of axe to grind - I'm a pentecostal christian myself.

Posted by: David | 3 Oct 2009 10:37:27

If Mr Hinn is a charlatan, then I do not wish him well. However, there is something about his exclusion from our country that disturbs me. For, if the main case against him is that he is simply enriching himself at the expense of others, then he is only another businessman doing what businessmen do.

If his followers are fools enough to part with their money, then why are they not allowed to indulge their foolishness? It is all very well to say that the law aims to protect people from their folly ; but isn't it the case that, if people are not given the freedom to make mistakes, then they do not enjoy freedom at all?

The kinds of politicians who restrict people's freedom to make fools of themselves must be closely watched.

Posted by: Jamie MacNab | 3 Oct 2009 09:59:36

So all Christians are equal, but some are more equal than others (at least Mr Hinn has a private jet, just like the Pope). So if Mr Hinn is not a "real" Christian, how can we tell the ones who are? And who writes the definitions? Perspective does indeed change with the point of view.

Posted by: Lewis Winders | 3 Oct 2009 09:29:37

Great!

A terrorist preacher openly preaches against hatred, violence and subversion from within England and the government is not able to do anything ... people who came as 'refugees' or 'students' to Britan then get involved in bombings and other anti-national activities.

But a preacher, who preaches the love of God and heals the sick (whether liked or disliked by many) is now banned entry.

Wow Britain! You have come a full circle from being a Christian nation till the 20th century now to become a anti-Christian nation.

Posted by: Cliff | 3 Oct 2009 07:37:28

This is good news! The Home Office is right in stopping the likes of Benny Hinn from coming to Britain and conducting the so-called evangelistic campaigns. It is all nothing but a big money-making business and it deceives the simple minded. It has nothing to do with Biblical Christianity. A careful observation of his techniques shows that it is based on the high pressurised psychological technique of Suggestion with the loud music to stress the people. It works them into a frenzy and they become susceptible to any kind of suggestion. I don't believe the Holy Spirit of God has anything to do with this sort of thing.

Talking about money is taboo for the English. The non-English don't seem to know it. I hate it when any preacher talks about money. Even tithing, i.e. you must give 10% of your income to the church, is a false doctrine and there is not one word on tithing form any of the original Apostles. St Paul said we are to give freely and cheerfully, not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Cor 9:7. Tithing was for the Levitical priests and it was for the Jews. It is not for the Christians.

British Christians should not let anyone deceive them. Read the Bible and stick with the liturgy of your Book of Common Prayer and you won't go wrong. The Book of Common Prayer contains great treasures of truth.

Cheers

Apparently, Benny's "healing" power is somewhat suspect.... [snip]... the fact that "Ministry Watch" issued an alert regarding his organization in 2005, and you have quite the interesting character assessment!

Apparently, Mr. Hinn's prophetic abilities are on a par with his healing capacity, having predicted such things as the death of Fidel Castro, all homosexuals dying and earthquakes destroying parts of the US - all of these were to have happened before the end of the 1990s.

Too bad I haven't tried my hand at healing and prophecy! I'm pretty sure I could do as well as Mr. Hinn.

And think of all the good I could accomplish with the money I would make...

"There are regular reports of miraculous healings from his missions around the world, including Britain."

Shouldn't he be Pope Benehinn, then? Surely the Holy Spirit would only approve of mere mortals turning Jesus tricks if it was Benny Dict, (Pope Rat), his personal emissary on earth, rather than just plain Benny Hinn (ordinary rat!)

Anyway, here's a link which will explain it all - er, sorry, expose it all - for those who miss out on the great man's appearance.

Dr. Alan Marsh (02/10/09 - 17:57:37. If Mr. Blair does get himself made "President" of Europe (and I would write that as "Precedent"), then we must all hope one of his first official acts will not be that of re-enacting the terms of the "Donation of Constantine", with all which that would entail.

Perhaps "eureka" will shortly have to be rewritten as "eureeker" or even as "euwrecker" ?.

My best wishes - I enjoy reading your posts.

In respect to the immigration law that was passed on November 2008, I would like to know how did Benny Hinn breach the law.

Benny Hinn was not caught breaking the law, he was on his way to the venue. Benny Hinn was not caught in the act, according to the British law, one would need to be caught in an act to be found guilty.

The british law ruled, goods place on shelves in a shop are not for sale, they are for display, the seller and the buyer would need to exchange hand, for example a sale would have taken place.

So how could Benny Hinn Breach the law when he was not selling his service?

Could you please explain this to me?
